HQW – High Quality Week. Anybody else catch that phrase on  Rob & Big   back in the day? I’ve been saying HQsomething for like a decade. I am totally a TV junkie. No shame. Rob&Big POSITIVITY MOTHERLOAD. Clearly. Anyway, finally taking lunch with some time to update: To kick off this recap, let’s make a note on how my world works when I’m trying to accomplish something out of my comfort zone. Right now, I’m trying to be all turbo-healthy and stuff. That means I have temporarily shut down the beer and pizza departments (Dying here. It’s awful. 0/10 Do not recommend.) I gotta drop a few LBs so my poor Dragon Spikes don’t snap under the pressure. Well, really with tasty beer, it’s more about dehydration for me at this point. Even coffee is a bad idea for me at altitude. I keep it to a light cocktail or two if our group goes out on the weekend because ya gotta live a little! And with pizza, it’s about my body’s general habit to bloat when digesting cheese. Running with the blo

It’s Tuesday. How about I go with, “Ima update this thang at whatever random day and time I think of it.” Boom. Scheduling problem solved. I win. Definitely a confident running week to report on. It doesn’t take long at all before I start to feel the fitness come back. It’s been pretty interesting watching my heart rate creep downward a bit too. Before coach’s reset after a pretty hectic year, I wasn’t being too consistent and got distracted a lot. It was just too busy with stuff that needed to get done. But, now that I’m settling into a routine and running like clockwork again, I feel it. I’m not thinking “Ugh this run is going to be slow and painful” and dreading the result of feeling worse than when I started. It’s now that mindset of “Hey, yo! You’re going to feel so much better after you get this run done. And you’ll feel like freekin’ rainbows and sunshine during it too.” Much better and so much more normal. Being out of shape really made me understand why people hate runn

Yeah, so Mondays are probably going to be update days now. Who knows. Yesterday Sean and I rearranged our place again. I think we nailed it this time. With guests coming from out-of-state next month for our Steamboat trip, we needed to work on the guest room and other sleeping space. So, yesterday was all about dragging furniture around, rebuilding my office a.k.a “Kim Kave” and then catching up on SNL…on Xfinity On Demand…because staying up late is hard! Why can’t SNL just go live in our time zone, eh? And now, the running/cross training part. It was a pretty routine week. Nothing too insane but I did hit the track for the first time in a bit. I freekin’ love my track. It’s new and literally across the street and so quiet. I have my fingers crossed that it will never turn into the other crowded tracks in and around town. If it does, it’s convenient enough for me to peak out my window and keep an eye out until it clears though. To quote   The Simple Life  from years ago (remember th

So, just got back from a snowboarding trip in Crested Butte, CO yesterday and I was freekin beat. It was easier to just get a run in after we got home and then lounge around watching the Golden Globes. No way was I sitting at the computer to write after that weekend! Perfect conditions =  Insane amounts of snowboarding. Seriously perfect conditions: Top of a few trails at Crested Butte, CO 1.7.17 But on to the running part… Monday 1.2.17 6 miles at 60-75% with a focus on staying relaxed. I’m getting better at taking these easy days much more carefully as altitude running for me has required smarter recovery. Coach nailed that way back and over the last few months, with health improving, I’ve done my best not to push like I used to. I don’t need to be in the fatigue hole again. Tuesday 1.3.17 8 miles with 5 progression. This being the first speed work since the reset, I’m not feeling the turnover quite yet. But, I don’t worry. The rule with me is that I need two weeks of sp
